Employers Dissatisfaction with Tribunal System

A recent survey shows that a majority of 97% employers feel that the present tribunal system is biased and in favour of the claimants while only 3% of the employers feel the current tribunal system is satisfactory as it is.
Pinsent Masons, a law firm, carried the survey for the consultation launched by the Tribunals Service and BIS to make the ways of settling disputes at workplace better. The study revealed the problems employers face with the present system as well as identified ways of improvement.
One of the problems businesses encounter with the tribunal system is the time periods the system takes. A huge majority of 87% employers feel that a single judge should handle more claims. Lack of consistency with regions is another matter of concern for the businesses. 81% respondents thought that between regions there existed inconsistency and 58% saying that within a same area there was inconsistency.
The study brought into notice the concerns for the requirement of a system to discard weak claims. 81% employers admitted that they received a claim which they thought to be as a try on. 78% respondents said that they frequently get such claims.
Chris Booth from Pinsent Masons said that the report is an indication of significance of the dissatisfaction level existing over the current tribunal system. Also, the way the system could be improved that can benefit both the claimants and employers similar is also highlighted. There is an apparent need for change.
